Porn movies inside Nairobi buses

While it is widely believed that projecting pornographic movies inside matatus buses is becoming common in Nairobi, details indicate the vice is spreading to rural routes.

Latest recruits in this blue movies culture are Mt Kenya routes as well as along Naivasha/Nakuru stretch.

The situation appears serious, judging by citizens complaints in local FM stations.

Last week, an agitated parent Beatrice Kananu called The Standard to complain about porn movies in matatus plying Nairobi/Meru route. "I was taking my daughter back to college in Igoji Teachers Training College. I complained that I did not want such entertainment but I was told to alight," she complained.

Matatu Owners Association Vice Chairman Steve Murunga confirms that the culture is spreading and calls for immediate action from police.

City Hall’s Communication officer Julius Ndegwa says the General Nuisance By laws, guides them. "It is not easy catching these people unless passengers complain. It is a digital equipment and by the time the vehicle is flagged down, ordered to open the door and an officer boards to inspect, the driver has already switched the movie off and in its place is a cartoon being played," he says.
